How to choose the lash type and what are the potential risks?

With regards to choosing the right lashes, it’s best to choose the recommendations of an expert. An experienced expert will analyze the status of your lashes and their natural volume, in order to know which type of extensions to apply.

The professionals in lash extensions attach a single artificial hair on a single natural hair. This is also called the classic method or technique, one to one, meaning that one hair is attached to a natural lash.

If you have strong enough lashes, you can choose to use the extensions called ‘russian method’. In this case they use lashes that are exceptionally light, that attach themselves as fans in 2-6 pieces. For instance, if you have 80 lashes, with this method you can increase their number to 240 or more. Through this technique, which is very popular in the First World Countries, the lashes form a straight fan and according to experts, you can wear them twice as long compared to classic extensions.

Generally, women with lash extensions don’t have any health problems. Still, if the technician doesn’t properly calculate the correct volume of the attached hairs, there is the risk to ‘win’ a traction alopecia – which means, to lose your lashes.

Us, from barhat.ro have carefully read the experienced technician’s advice and now we know to be careful during the process of applying the lashes. Here are some secrets for their caring that we’re sharing with you.

Secrets to maintain the lash extensions straight from the technicians

1.Tips after the first procedure

For a proper care of the lash extensions, in the first day after the procedure you mustn’t wash your face, take a hot shower or go to the sauna or to the pool. This is necessary in order for the glue to have time to harden completely.

Depending on its composition, the lash extension glue lasts between 12 and 24 hours. If water reaches the lashes, there is the risk that the glue will not have a good enough grip. Also, avoid as much as possible touching the lashes with your hand, or even brushing them.

2. Using mascara and makeup, along with the right makeup removal products

Painting the lash extensions with mascara is not recommended, for a simple reason: when you’re removing your makeup, you can damage them and in this case, the time the lashes last will be shortened. If you want to apply makeup at any costs, only add some to the tips, without touching the base with the brush.

Also, technicians advice you to wait for at least 3 days, if you’re using a mascara that’s water resistant, and a day (24 hours) if you’re using a common mascara. If you’re wearing contact lenses, they will have to be removed before the procedure. If you’re used to waterproof mascara, then you will have to give it up. No matter the type of glue that’s used, such a mascara is definitely not recommended, because it’s pretty hard to remove and there is the risk that it is removed along with the lashes.

Daily removal of makeup is necessary, but avoid such products that have oil in their composition. Keep this in mind for as long as you’re wearing the lashes, because the oil reduces the glue’s strength or it can even dissolve it completely. You can still use micellar water, tonic lotion or a special formula for your eyes and lips.

3. Doing corrections

During a procedure to apply lash extensions, an experienced technician will be able to easily correct any natural defects, if there are any present.

4. Preventive techniques to wash your face

Besides removal of makeup, we recommend that you wash the lashes with water – except the first two days after the procedure -, by using gentle motions, in the general direction of the lashes’ natural growth. For washing you may use the shower with warm water. A cleaning foam will help you eliminate all makeup residue off of your face, which can gather at the root of the natural lashes.

5. Brushing the lashes

It’s important to brush your lashes when they are dried up, don’t get them wet though, only wipe them with swabbing with a paper towel. Brush them using a special brush, without rubbing the eyes or excessively pulling the lashes, once a day.

6. Applying eye lotions

It’s not necessary to give up using day or eye lotions, but take care that they won’t touch the natural lashes. Besides, make sure that you’ve checked their ingredient list, including the hydrating lotions. Oftentimes, they contain oils or serums that can destroy the glue and the lashes won’t last long then.

7. Sleeping in a proper position

Sleeping on your belly or with the face to the pillow can affect the extension quality, we also recommend you avoid using these sleeping positions.

Tips for getting ready before the procedure

Before doing the lash extension procedure, the skin has to be cleaned, so you can avoid applying foundation, powder – especially one with an oily texture – or any other products. Even the eyelid eye shadow or the eye pencil can affect the final result.

Choose the technician after their experience

An experienced technician will help you to apply the hair by hair lashes correctly, but also to remove them effectively, at the right time. They will take into account the lash condition and their natural volume, in order to apply the right extensions.

Applying more volume by attaching lash extension hair on each natural lash is impossible: an experienced technician will only work with the lashes that are already “adult”. If the hairs are still growing, the fake lashes cannot be attached to them.

Oftentimes, the beginner technicians or those that are self-taught are looking for models for training. In this case, the extensions are applied free of charge, but don’t hurry to agree to this, because the lack of experience and the practice can lead to unwanted results. A specialist will work more thoroughly and they will also give you the correct tips for maintaining and caring for them and will also use quality products to remove and clean the lash extensions.

Any special indications

According to statistics, more than 50% of the salons that offer lash extension services have at least once a year, a client that develops a strong allergic reaction to a glue. Most of the women simply forget about the need to test the substance. In conclusion, the problem is found too late and the session must be postponed.

There is a necessity to check the glue’s composition for the lash extensions in the beauty salon. In no case, does it have to contain formaldehyde – it will cause redness, rashes, itching or even swelling.

After the procedure, you will lose anywhere between 1-3 extensions each day, but this is considered normal. After approximately 2-3 weeks, half of the volume will disappear and then you may return for a touchup.

For some women, the lashes begin falling a few days after the appointment – this cannot be accurately predicted. The lash extensions fall together with the natural ones, which regenerate in their normal rate, and a few fall each day. This is not noticed usually, because a natural lash is much less visible as it’s short and thin and it doesn’t stand out like an extension that’s attached to it.

Take care of your health during the procedure: if you’re not feeling comfortable, or your eyes have a tingly sensation and you start tearing up, it’s necessary to immediately end the appointment! Most likely the reason is that you’re allergic to the glue, because the lash extensions procedure shouldn’t have any physical consequences. Besides, if you’re had any surgeries around the eyes, you should talk to your ophthalmologist before choosing to go for a procedure for applying extensions.

The counterindications with regards to applying hair by hair lashes is for people that suffer from conjunctivitis, blepharitis or dry eye syndrome.

In closing

If they are correctly cared and maintained, the hair by hair lashes can last 4 or even six weeks, so that’s plenty of time to enjoy lashes that have more volume or that are longer, but they also look natural.
